Christy-Lynn Cooke, MD, PhD

What is Your Current Position?

Assistant Clinical Professor and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist. Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, University of Alberta.

What are your current research endeavors and/or other academic contributions?

My current research involved studying the effects of advanced maternal age on developmental programming of cardiovascular disease in the offspring. My research activities are in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Sandy Davidge, whom I assist with co-mentoring graduate students, in addition to conducting my own experiments using animal models of IUGR and advanced maternal age.

What has been the most pivotal moment in your career?

The most pivotal moment of my career was as an early graduate student, when my experiments began to work and I published that data in my first manuscript. It was at that moment that my love for research was solidified!

What is one piece of advice you would give to a trainee?

The one piece of advice I would give would be to find the best mentor you can, one with whom you connect and feel supported throughout your training.

 

Hugh Taylor, MD

What is Your Current Position?

Chair of OB/GYN at Yale University School of Medicine.

What are your current research endeavors and/or other academic contributions?

Stem cells, Mullerian development, endocrine disruption, endometriosis, and menopause.

What has been the most pivotal moment in your career?

My first discovery when I confirmed to myself that I could make a substantial contribution to science and medicine.

What is one piece of advice you would give to a trainee?

Pursue your passion for discovery and try make the world a better place! Do not be constrained by anything.  

 

Asma Khalil, MDres, MRCOG, MSC

Asma Khalil (MBBCh, MD, MRCOG, MSc(Epi), DFSRH, Dip(GUM)) is a Consultant Obstetrician at St George’s Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s Medical School, University of London. She is a subspecialist in Maternal and Fetal Medicine, specialising in scanning women and babies with complications in pregnancy. She is the lead for the Multiple Pregnancy service at St George’s Hospital, the referral unit for the South West London region, but also cares for women with low risk pregnancies.

Asma gained her MD at the University of London in 2009 following two years’ research into pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure in pregnancy). She also has a Masters degree in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and an MRC scholarship.
