Getting my first NIH R01 in 2003 (About 2 years after starting my independent career)

Serdar Bulun, MD

What is Your Current Position?

Dr. Serdar Bulun is the John J Sciarra Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University and Obstetrician and Gynecologist-in-Chief at Prentice Women's Hospital at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

What are your current research endeavors and/or other academic contributions?

His research team has introduced aromatase inhibitors as a new class of drugs to treat endometriosis and pelvic pain and been awarded over a total of 60 million dollars of research funding in the areas of uterine, breast and placental disorders. Bulun's exceptional achievements have earned many notable recognitions including his election to the National Academy of Medicine in 2015. He has been serving as the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University since 2012.

 

Kelle Moley, MD

What is Your Current Position?

Dr. Kelle Moley is the James P. Crane professor and vice chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri USA. She is a physican-scientist and is chief of the Division of Basic Research. She is also director of the Center for Reproductive Health Sciences at Washington University. She was inducted into the National Academy of Medicine in 2014.

What are your current research endeavors and/or other academic contributions?

Moley’s research interests focus on women’s reproductive health, specifically maternal obesity and diabetes before and during pregnancy and its long term effects on infant health. Starting with sperm and oocyte maturation, through fertilization and implantation, Moley has mapped out the consequences of over nutrition in women on fertility, pregnancy outcomes and infant well being. She has also linked these early developmental exposures to the predisposition of these offspring to adult diseases such as metabolic syndrome, and predisposition to cancer in both males and females.
