SRI President, 2013-2014
2013-2014 was a big year for change in SGI. The council engaged in a new strategic planning process in the late spring of 2013 and we started with phone calls to key stakeholders. We found that over half felt the name did not reflect the much broader areas represented by the current membership. We spent considerable time and effort choosing the best name and finally the council agreed upon the Society for Reproductive Investigation (SRI). The Society as a whole voted on two options for a new logo at the Annual Meeting and SRI was born! There were a few loud dissenters but the vast majority was pleased and the name was adopted.
The annual meeting was in Florence Italy and this was our second international meeting. It was well attended and ran pretty smoothly with only a few glitches thanks to Bo Rueda and the rest of the former SGI team. The planning process for international meetings is entirely different than domestic meetings and we had some major obstacles, but the membership was extremely supportive of doing more international meetings.
2014 was also the year Ava Tayman retired after over 25 years of service with SGI. She was missed by many at the annual meeting.
Overall it was a trying year but very rewarding.
