Gerson Weiss, MD
SRI President, 1991-1992
There was much activity regarding having SGI become an international organization. The most likely international candidate was Chair of the nominations committee, but he had no qualms about being replaced. The new committee provided two international candidates, both superb scientists and academicians. One was somewhat older and more well-known. We could not lose. We had our first international President.
There was much activity re. mini-symposia in 2006. Our annual Council meeting was held in Siena, another boost for internationalism, and a hell of a good time was had by all.
Many changes in guidelines were made, most of which I have forgotten. We gave free meeting entrance to all members who were members of 25 years, as well as lifetime membership. This resulted from a complaint from Finn Siiteri. Past Presidents got the same consideration. Unfortunately, Finn died before he could avail himself of this perk.
Data regarding other changes reside in the lost or nonexistent minutes, which were taken but apparently are now gone.
The SG/RI continues to be the premier scientific organization in our multiple scientific disciplines.
