New Editors-in-Chiefs Announced for Reproductive Sciences
The Society for Reproductive Investigation (SRI) is proud to announce the new Co-Editors-in-Chief of its official journal, Reproductive Sciences. Drs. Ayman Al-Hendy and Seung-Yup Ku will officially move into their new positions at the beginning of 2020. They will both be participating actively in the transition over the next several months.
Dr. Al-Hendy is the Professor and Director of Translational Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has experience serving as the Associate Editor for Maternal Health, Neonatology and Perinatology, and also served on several editorial boards including Fertility and Sterility, Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, and Biomedicine. Dr. Al-Hendy is an accomplished scientist with continuous NIH funding since 2003, and has published 197 original peer reviewed articles, as well as several other publications. He was the 2015 recipient of the Rogerio A. Lobo Award from SRI which was established to recognize the most outstanding contribution to Reproductive Sciences, named in honor of Dr. Lobo, a former President of the Society and former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Society for Gynecologic Investigation (JSGI) which is now Reproductive Sciences. Dr. Al-Hendy has several initiatives that he hopes to implement during his time as a Co-Editor, including diversifying the Associate Editors, and also increasing the translational and clinical research submissions.
Dr. Ku is Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Seoul National University Hospital and a long-standing member of SRI. He has held several editorial positions at various journals including Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Ku has been mentored throughout his career by the aforementioned Dr. Lobo. With over 120 articles published in peer reviewed journals, he has been recognized for his accomplishments widely in Korea, as well as internationally. With this new position, Dr. Ku hopes to change the reputation of Reproductive Sciences by decreasing the number of zero citation papers, broadening the readership by opening and organizing the topics that are accepted for publication, among a number of other ideas and initiatives.
SRI looks forward to the experience and perspective that both Dr. Al-Hendy and Dr. Ku will bring to the journal moving forward with its new publisher, Springer Nature. This team will enhance the international focus of the journal and will continue to advance current Editor of Reproductive Sciences, Dr. Hugh Taylor’s vision, “to position this journal as the preeminent journal for translational reproductive science.”
Dr. Taylor has served as the Editor of Reproductive Sciences since 2006. In Dr. Taylor’s welcome message featured in the September 2006 issue of the Journal of the Society for Gynecologic Investigation he stated, “I plan to position this journal as the preeminent journal for translational reproductive science.” And that he did, with the excellent help of the Managing Editor, Maria Rosa Maduro. For the last 163 issues and thousands of articles reviewed, Dr. Taylor has been fervent in his quest to produce a high quality journal featuring outstanding science. Over his nearly 13 years as Editor-in-Chief of Reproductive Sciences, Dr. Taylor has contributed significantly to its impact factor of 2.559 and rankings in the top 30% in the category of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the top 50% of Reproductive Biology. The work that he has done to support the journal has transformed this Society in immeasurable ways. His vision, direction and leadership are peerless. Drs. Taylor’s and Maduro’s service to SRI will be recognized at the 2020 Annual Meeting of the SRI in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
“We are indebted to Dr. Taylor for his tireless efforts to elevate Reproductive Sciences and I am looking forward to continuing that progress with the new leadership of the journal,” said current President of SRI, Jim Segars, MD.
